Old Cutout Star Hudson Coal Co Police Badge MiningOld cut-out star in circle obsolete police badge from teh hudson coal co. The hudson coal company was owned and operated by the delaware & hudson railway. This company has a long history, starting with the delaware and hudson canal. The delawrae & hudson canal was 108 miles long, between honesdale, pa, and eddyville, n. Y. (now in kingston), linking the delaware and hudson rivers built 1825-28 to move coal from the pennsylvania coalfields to new york markets. A gravity railroad, completed across the moosic mts. In 1829, connected the coalfields at carbondale, pa, with honesdale.
Four suspension bridge aqueducts were latre constructed along the canal, including one over the delaware that still survives. Teh canal operated profitably until the 1860s increasing railroad competition caused its abandonment in 1898. The canal company built a railroad, oen of the first railroads in the united states, later known as the delaware and hudson company and then the delaware and hudson railroad until 1968. eNat piece for the railroad, obsolete badge, coal or mining collector.
